Hardware specifications
Dell Inspiron 5680 w NVIDIA 1070 8GB VRAM connected to a LG Ultrawide 34″ 1440p monitor via HDMI. Logitech Mechanical Mini TKL keyboard and Razer mouse.
Unless noted otherwise, all updates are performed via Pamac, Manjaro’s GUI Package Manager. The purpose of this PC is web and graphics design which doesn’t need any software from the AUR.
Fresh install of Manjaro Gnome Edition

The update was 1.1 GB and went smooth. Machine rebooted without issues.
Today’s update was 117.6 MB. No issues.
After testing KaOS today, we determined that KDE 6 wasn’t a priority for us and subsequently reinstalled Manjaro GNOME Minimal Edition to continue testing.
Firefox 123 > 124. No issues
Installed CachyOS to do a bit of testing and depending how it goes, we’ll be back again and continue with Manjaro.
There were no issues with Manjaro as far as performance goes but removing the theme tweaks is time consuming which is why we keep looking for a distro that saves us time.
An we are back to Manjaro
Fresh install (same ISO) of Manjaro Gnome Minimal Edition. No issues.
Just updated kernel to 6.6.25-1 and NVIDIA drivers to 550.67
No issues.
Fresh Install of Manjaro Gnome
I have exciting news. Our Dell Precision PC suffered from an unusual bug where certain distributions would cause the monitor to emit a noticable whitenoise.
I am happy to say that today’s fresh install. so far, has eliminated the hissing.
